Tips to prepare for SSC CGL Tier 3 2018-19 Exam


Staff Selection Commission conducted SSC CGL TIER I Exam 2018-19 and finished its round of examinations on 13th June 2019. Initially, SSC used to conduct two tiers as Prelims and Mains followed by document verification and skill tests. Since SSC TIER I is over and candidates are aware of the exam pattern and syllabus of SSC TIER II but TIER 3 being recently opted needs some tips and awareness. Let us discuss some tips to prepare for SSC CGL TIER 3 EXAM 2018-19 before we reach that stage.
But last year, Tier III was introduced which is a descriptive test of one hour. It is conducted to analyze linguistic communication and writing skills of the candidates. It is held in both the mediums English as well as Hindi, depending upon the medium opted at the time of registration for the exam writing.
First of all one should know the exam pattern to be followed by SSC CGL Tier 3 Exam. It is an offline exam which consists of essay writing or passage writing of about 250 words and an application or letter writing of about 150 words. The duration of the paper is one hour. It is a bilingual exam which can be written either in English or Hindi Medium.  
Tier 3 has been replaced by a descriptive exam with that of Interview session for various posts. It is a qualifying exam as score obtained in this tier and other two tiers are considered for the final merit list.

 TIPS TO PREPARE FOR SSC CGL TIER III EXAM

TIER 3 aims at language proficiency of the candidate thus high quality of writing skills are expected from them. Marks or score granted will be based on the word counts and the quality of language used in the writings. It is a qualifying stage and thus needs thorough preparation of the language you have opted for. In case you exceed the word limit you may be disqualified therefore practice a lot to maintain the word limit as prescribed by the examining body.

3. LEARN THE BASIC ETHICS OF WRITING EFFECTIVELY
Revise the basic grammar rules and read English or Hindi articles, books, novels, newspapers etc. Reading improves the vocabulary and enhances the flow of writing as one gets to have the idea of expressing the topic in the most eloquent and ethical manner. After reading any article in the newspaper, students should tries to write it in their own words by taking the help of the original article. It will help them understand the flow of writing to be maintained while writing as writing needs language proficiency. Speaking practice should also be done by reading aloud so that you pronounce the correct word. In case, you pronounce wrongly, you tend to make spelling mistakes while writing. We are expecting that Tier 3 will have essay for 50-60 marks and letter will be of 20-30 marks or it may reach 40 marks. It all depends on exam conducting body. According to the word limit given in the official notification one can guess that the distribution of marks will be given more to Essay or Passage writing and less to Letter Writing.

4. Important points to be taken care of while writing letter or essays are:

  3. Flawless points with Continuity and contextual references.
  4. Content should be logically explained by taking live examples rather than super imposed.  It is only possible if you read newspaper daily. Try to remember the details of the hot or headlines of the news. It will help you attempt the descriptive exam effectively.
  5. The political issues must be closed by giving adequate suggestions to give clarity of ideas which your mindset has acquired after writing and understanding the given topic to write. It will fetch you a good score.
  6. Always remember to maintain word limit given in the question paper or else there are chances that your paper will not be evaluated.
